ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Elmira Police are currently investigating a reported armed robbery on Lake Street.

Officers responded to the 900 block of Lake Street around 2:40pm Monday. A 21-year-old Elmira resident told police he was robbed at gunpoint and then struck in the head. The suspect stole money and personal property from the victim. Police say the suspect was known to the victim.

Police later stopped a car on Clemens Center Parkway just north of 2nd Street. Traffic was shut down for a brief time while the high-risk stop was completed. Two persons of interest were taken to the Elmira Police Detective Bureau after the traffic stop. They are currently being interviewed.

The Elmira Police Department says there aren't any further concerns for public safety in relation to the incident.

They're asking anyone with information to call the anonymous tip line at (607) 271-HALT or the front desk at (607) 737-5626.
