ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Families in Chemung County grew a little bigger Friday afternoon as county agencies celebrated National Adoption Day!
Friday, November 17th is a very special day for 9-year-old Kymerea.
"Well, I got adopted by my mom! It makes me feel happy, especially with my sister she's really nice," she says.
Kymerea's mother, Deborah Lauper, had been her foster parent for years.
"We have been waiting for this for about 5 years. Little Kye came to our home when she was 3, going on 4, and we just knew the minute she walked in that it was perfect for us," Deborah says.
Kymerea says she's looking forward to making more memories with her official new family.
"We have movie nights, we eat popcorn, and we do a lot of fun stuff!"
There is still always a need for more families to consider opening their hearts and homes to a child.
"We have children in this community that need permanent homes, families that will provide commitment to them, love and a stable environment," says Karen Fitzpatrick, Supervisor of the county's Homefinding Unit.
For this mom and daughter, they truly feel they complete each other.
She's nice and generous and yea, she's fun. I love her and I'm so happy that she's my mom!" says Kymerea.
I'm just so very happy that Kye's entered my life. I think as much as maybe I've helped her, I hope I have, she has helped me more than anyone will ever know," Deborah says.
