ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Community members gathered at Wisner Park in Downtown Elmira Tuesday night for the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting celebration.
Those who attended the event were able to enjoy hot coco and treats, donate winter clothing to local Girl Scouts Troop, or purchase a Christmas tree from the local Boy Scouts Troop.
The Roots & Wings Holiday Choir also performed during the festivities, singing a number of favorite Christmas carols.
The highlight of the night, of course, being the Christmas tree lighting. Santa, himself, was there to assist in the ceremony, along with his elves!
Holiday fun continues in Elmira on Friday with the 61st Annual Downtown Elmira Holiday Parade, which begins at 10:00 a.m.
Before, during, and after the parade, Elmira's Wine & Design will offer a holiday craft fair called "Under the Lights." Jewelry, handmade soap, candles, wine bottle wind chimes, paintings and more will be featured. Wine & Design will also be raffling off a basket of goodies.
Another event officially underway, the "Downtown Holiday Window Decorating Contest." It's designed to celebrate and highlight downtown businesses. That runs through November 21st. Judging will take place on December 9th and the winner will be announced the week of December 19th.
