ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- For the eleventh year in a row, Shabach Tabernacle Church ensured everyone was able to enjoy a hot meal this Thanksgiving. Thursday afternoon, the church held its annual Free Thanksgiving Dinner.
Throughout the afternoon, nearly one-hundred people stopped by the enjoy good food and company.
The church also delivered close to 75 meals throughout the community. This, organizers say, is meant to help the elderly or anyone unable to leave their home, still enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday.
But feeding and hosting that many people is not an easy task. It also requires plenty of preparation.
"We start three days ahead," says Vera Wood, Supervisor of Shabach Tabernacle's Soup Kitchen. "We make five to six pans of potatoes, three pans of yams, we did seven turkeys today. We [also] did green beans [and] all kinds of desserts."
Organizers say none of it would be possible without the donations of local businesses and the hard work of their volunteers.
"It just brings people together," says Wood. "[They get to] associate with other families and have some fun."
