HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Local residents where able to start their holiday season with a ride on the Polar Express.
The twelfth annual "Sullivan's Railroad Polar Express" was held in Horseheads on Sunday.
Visitors could take a ride around the track and enjoy some homemade cookies and hot chocolate.
While Santa Claus was there to take pictures and hear what kids wanted for Christmas.
The event aims at giving members of the community a fun holiday tradition.
"There's a lot of work involved in this hobby and railroading is something very special to our family," said Sullivan Railroad co-owner, Art Sullivan. "Then to have an event that people show up for and have smiles on their face, and do something for a very good cause, it's a double thing. It's very much of a plus."
Sullivan Railroad was accepting donations as the fee to ride the trains.
All the proceeds from the event benefit the Arctic League.
