ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- An Ithaca man was arrested on a bench warrant after a 90-minute stand-off at a home on the 500-block of Hudson Street in the City of Ithaca.
According to IPD, 38-year-old Damien Blackman surrendered after a SWAT team arrived on Monday afternoon.
The standoff evolved from a reported domestic violence incident around 12:30 P.M.
Police say they responded to the home on Hudson Street after a physical dispute report came-in. When officers arrived, they found out that one of the people involved had a warrant out for their arrest of felony criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Blackman allegedly barricaded himself in a bedroom on the 2nd floor, refusing to surrender to officers. Police say they made several unsuccessful attempts to talk to him.
Ithaca Police say out of caution, nearby South Hill School had its student release time changed.
After the standoff, Blackman was turned over the Tompkins County Sheriff's Department.
