Sheriff: Extradition of Teen In Grandmother's Killing Sought

Posted: Updated:

MIAMI (AP) - Florida authorities say they're moving to extradite a teenager caught trying to enter Canada who's suspected in his grandmother's killing.

A Jacksonville Sheriff's Office statement says homicide investigators obtained an arrest warrant Tuesday for the 15-year-old boy, who was stopped Friday night near Buffalo, New York.

Florida authorities had sought the teen and his grandmother since last Wednesday, when they failed to pick up the teen's father at the airport. The grandmother had been watching her grandson while her son was vacationing. Authorities say her body was found Friday in a shallow grave behind the father's Neptune Beach home.

Police say the homes of the teen and his grandmother had been ransacked and her vehicle was missing.

The Associated Press doesn't generally identify juveniles suspected of crimes.
