ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) - The Arc of Chemung is recognizing individuals who participated in their Pathway to Employment program.
The program began 2 years ago with the goal of helping people with intellectual and developmental disabilities get work experience.
Those who participate in the program spend more than 250 hours with a job coach, where they develop their interests and their goals.
They will then try out different jobs in the community that fit those interests.
“We work with people until they establish four to five job areas or careers they are interested in,” says Diane Marshall, STI Program Director. “Then we seek out employers and we make that match. People really enjoy they learn from it. The employers learn a great deal and many times, it results in an offer of employment at the end.”
The Arc of Chemung honored 10 clients Friday. They spent time gaining job experience at several local businesses, including Wegmans, Wendy’s and WENY News.
