ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- A man from Pine City is behind bars after reports of an early morning shooting in Elmira.

Police charged 19-year-old Shane Adams with Criminal Possession of a Firearm.

Police were called to an apartment on Broadway between Hopkins and Holdridge Streets just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

They were responding to reports of gunfire.

Upon their arrival, police were told Adams tried to shoot another man when the two got into an argument.

Both SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Teams were called in to assist. Negotiators were eventually able to resolve the incident peacefully.

A loaded semi-automatic assault rifle was found in the apartment, along with other evidence of a shooting.

Adams is being held in Elmira City lock up awaiting arraignment.

Police say he may face additional charges.
