Posted: Updated:

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York will soon unwrap an annual holiday present from its farmers.

The New York Farm Bureau on Tuesday will announce the results of its annual "Harvest for All" program that encourages farmers to donate local agricultural products to state food banks.

Last year, farmers contributed more than 13 million pounds of food through the campaign.

Directors at local food banks have reported that hunger is an increasing problem in New York state, with more families, seniors and even college students turning to soup kitchens and food pantries to put a meal on the table.

Food banks in New York state distribute more than 225 million pounds of food to almost 3 million people each year.
