Elmira, N.Y. (WENY) -- Wegmans stores in Elmira and Corning have partnered with a delivery service called Instacart to alleviate some of the stress for busy shoppers.
Starting Wednesday, customers will be able to buy groceries from their home or on the go using the Instacart app.
Instacart shopper Gaurav Maken says that once they download the app, the rest is simple. He says, "Instacart works by the customer just opening up our mobile app and picking the products they want from the store they want, in a delivery window that works for them. I take care of the rest."
Once the customer picks their items and place the delivery, an Instacart shopper will go to Wegmans and do their shopping for them. The shopper will then bring the groceries straight to their home.
The items are priced slightly higher, and there is an additional delivery fee.
Chris Malcolm, manager of the Elmira Wegmans, believes that the ease of using the app will attract customers. He says, "We do expect a lot of customers to use it because it really offers convenience and in this day and age it's really appealing. If you're a busy parent or even a college student, you have multiple responsibilities. The ease of having a delivery service do your shopping for you is really appealing."
Malcolm says they teamed with Instacart as a way of trying to meed the needs of their customers and servicing them in the best way possible.
