(WENY) -- Do you have an itch for nostalgia? Well if so, you only have a few more days to get your AIM fix.
AOL instant messenger goes offline for good this Friday. The once-popular platform has been around since 1997. But its popularity started to wane after the advent of the smartphone and text messaging. Social media sites like Myspace and Facebook also helped spell the end to AIM.
On December 15th, the service and your buddy list is going dark forever.
On AIM's website, the company said, "We know there are so many loyal fans who have used AIM for decades; and we loved working and building the first chat app of its kind since 1997. Our focus will always be on providing the kind of innovative experiences consumers want. We’re more excited than ever to focus on building the next generation of iconic brands and life-changing products."
