VAN ETTEN (TOWN), NY (WENY) -- Thursday was the first meeting for the Town of Van Etten since Village residents voted to move forward with dissolving earlier this week.
During the meeting, some residents asked how the town plans to play a role in the dissolve process. Officials say it's up to village leaders to decide how exactly that will happen, and how much the town will be involved.
Town Supervisor George Keturi says they are willing to help in any way they can, and they've already taken steps to ensure a smooth process for village residents.
"Well we've done a lot of work in-house here to figure out how to keep the services the same that they are in the village now and we've come up with proposals to do just that. So nothing should change for their services or things like that," Keturi says.
District representative for Chemung County, Brian Hyland, also attended the meeting. He says he's spoken to Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli about how the county can assist, as well.
"We've asked both entities, the village and the town, to put together an idea of what we could possibly help them with. In the meantime, we've never done this before. This is the first dissolution we've had in the county. We're going to move forward and looking our toolbox and see what we've got and what we can provide to help them," Hyland explains.
The Village will have its next meeting on Monday at 7:00. Representatives from the Rochester-based non-profit group CGR, which conducted the dissolution study, are expected to be there.
