Two Tioga County men arrested for string of pellet gun shootings

CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- After more than 70 reports of damaged windows, police arrested and charged two Tioga County (NY) men. They're accused of using a high powered pellet gun to shoot out the windows of multiple cars and businesses in Chemung and Tioga County.

According to the New York State Police, 21-year-old Cody Keller of Waverly, and 20-year-old Jayden Elia of Spencer were arrested and each charged with one count of felony criminal mischief. More charges are pending once all victims come forward.

Police say the pair used two stolen pellet guns during the spree. The reported shootings happened between December 15th and the 16th.

The pair allegedly shot out more than 50 windows in the City of Elmira, and nearly a dozen in the County Route 64 shopping areas.

The businesses included:

  • Kohl’s – Horseheads
  • Dick’s Sporting Goods – Horseheads
  • Ulta Beauty – Horseheads
  • Lane Bryant – Horseheads
  • AT&T – Horseheads
  • Cricket Wireless – Elmira
  • Express Lube – Elmira
  • WETM – Elmira
  • First Arena – Elmira
  • Gerould’s Healthcare – Elmira
  • Aaron’s Rental – Elmira
  • Searle’s Garage - Barton

Keller and Elia are schedule to be arraigned in Horseheads Town Court. Recommended bail will be $10,000 cash -- $20,000 property.

The investigation into the criminal mischief spree included the New York State Police, the Elmira Police Department, the Chemung County Sheriff's Office, and the Tioga County Sheriff's Office.
