Twin Tiers residents travel home for the holiday

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- People all across the Twin Tiers have been doing what they can to make it home to their families for Christmas.

Over the weekend, many people were flying in and out of the Elmira Corning Regional Airport.

At one point, Delta was even offering passengers up to a seven hundred dollar voucher to volunteer their seat and reschedule their flight.

But no matter what the cost, local residents were willing to do whatever it took to make it home for the holiday.

"It's that time of year," said Twin Tiers resident, Michael Riley, who was traveling to be with his family in Denver. "Family is important and it's been a year and a half since I was last there. So I'm kind of interested to see what things feel the same. What feels new. I spent eighteen years there, so I guess we'll find out."

According to AAA, this holiday season set a record for the number of people traveling across the country.

They say more than one-hundred million people this year will be traveling over the holiday season.
