CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- Not long after much of the world rang in 2018, Thomas Peter Graham became one of the first babies born in the new year. Staff at Guthrie Corning Hospital delivered the baby, who weighed in at eight pounds, six ounces, at 1:03 am.
"We feel very blessed and we're just excited to add this little guy to our family and excited for all the fun times ahead," says mother Liz Graham.
And for both parents, Thomas' arrival was a bit unexpected, coming almost two weeks before Liz's due date.
"He came a little early," says Liz. "It was one of the best surprises we could have had."
"I always wanted a baby," says Joseph Graham, one of Thomas' three older brothers. "I always ask."
"They didn't know if it was going to be a girl or a boy. so this morning we told them it was a boy and they were all like, 'yes, four brothers," says father Pete Graham.
But Thomas was not the only baby whose birth rang in the new year.
Just minutes before, at 12:58 am, a baby girl was born at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Sayge Caroline Jump weighed in at 7 pounds, two ounces.
But despite whether their son was the first or second baby born in the New Year, the Graham's say they're thankful for the newest addition to their family.
"I'm just very lucky we have these four beautiful, healthy children," says Pete. "I'm just very happy."
