Panel backs U of R misconduct probe; president resigns

Posted: Updated:

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A special committee has found that the University of Rochester properly dealt with sexual misconduct allegations against a professor and did not retaliate against faculty who brought the complaints.
Nevertheless, university President Joel Seligman announced he will resign next month so that a new leader can focus on healing the campus.
Seligman says he made his decision before seeing Thursday's report.
The university ordered the probe after several faculty members filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The panel found that while Professor T. Florian Jaeger's behavior, including sexual relationships with students, was offensive and unprofessional, the university was right to find he didn't violate university policy.
Attorney Ann Olivarius, who represents the complainants, calls the report incomplete and inaccurate.
Jaeger didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.
