ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Residents flocked to Ithaca on Saturday afternoon to enjoy the 20th annual "Downtown Ithaca Chili Cook-Off". Over forty-different restaurants brought the heat as they worked at trying to claim the title of best chili.
"It's a combination of being able to highlight all of our amazing downtown restaurants and stores that are down here," said Downtown Ithaca Alliance Special Events Coordinator, Summer Keown. "This is also a fundraiser for Downtown Ithaca. It lets us do a lot of the events that we do all year.
The event was held at the Ithaca Common. Visitors could buy tickets to go and try a wide variety of different chili's. At the end of the day, judges had to pick the top three, but visitors also could play a role in selecting the "Fan Favorite". Organizers say the event is able to get people out and about on a winter day to have some fun.
"It's a great chance to just get out of the house, get warm and try some really delicious chili," said Keown. "You get to try things from all different kinds of different restaurants here."
The cook off also featured numerous things like a DJ, a family fun center, a magician and even mustache and beard competitions. If you'd like to learn more about the cook off, you can visit Downtown Ithaca Alliance's website at: http://www.downtownithaca.com/.
