ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Would you like a side of fries with your wedding vow renewal? The McDonald's on Elmira Road in Ithaca helped customers celebrate Valentine's Day a little differently this year.
McDonald's hosted a "marriage vow renewal" drive-through event Tuesday afternoon.
Radio DJ Chris Allinger from Q-Country brought the idea to management after becoming recently ordained.
After couples picked up their order of vow renewals, a little ceremony was held inside the restaurant.
Couples received a certificate, roses and a box of chocolates. Many people had fun with the idea, and others were totally surprised!
"This is our 10 year anniversary so we thought it would be fun to come out special and different and fun!" says Ken and Erin Showerman.
"We were looking for a fun way to celebrate Valentine's Day to bring some excitement to the restaurant and the to the community," says Courtney Feehan, Owner & Operator of the Ithaca McDonald's.
"Well it was kind of a surprise for him. My daughter-in-law in the General Manager here and we thought up the idea of saying that her car broke down and we had to come down here and have him help fix it so she could get home tonight. And then he walked in here and found out he was going to renew his vows!" says Carol Sorgi.
"Haha, surprise is putting it lightly!" adds Jean Sorgi.
Management says they had a great turnout and will consider continuing the event again for next year.
