ALBANY, N.Y. (WENY) -- Four governors have joined forces on gun safety, pledging to share intel.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today he is joining the Governors of New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island to form a state coalition on gun control.
The task force will race and intercept illegal guns, step up intelligence and information sharing among the states and create a regional gun violence research group.
That group will conduct studies to better inform policy makers.
Building on these efforts, the states will also work to push the federal government to adopt common-sense gun safety measures. In order to protect families and communities across the region, the group will call on the federal government to swiftly enact universal background checks, an assault weapons ban and a federal waiting period between the purchase and delivery of guns.
