NEW YORK, NY (WENY) -- In the wake of the Florida school shooting US Senator Chuck Schumer is warning the Trump Administration about the dangers of its proposed budget cuts to school safety.
The proposal, released by President Trump and Education Secretary Betsy Devos would cut $3.6 billion from the budget.
Some of the cuts would target mental health aid for students and eliminate the School Emergency Response to Violence Program, which helped communities like Newtown, Connecticut after the Sandy Hook shooting.
Schumer says the proposal targets about $425 million dollars in school safety and mental health programs.
Senator Schumer says he'll do everything he can, to stop the cuts from making it to the final version of the president's budget.
