ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) - An Elmira man is facing charges after police say he tried to cocaine during a traffic stop.
Officers pulled the car over around 11:30pm Sunday night on West Church Street near Guinnip Avenue for a traffic violation. Police say officers also saw the car leaving a home known for its narcotics activity shortly before the traffic stop.
During the traffic stop, police say they saw a passenger, later identified as 27-year-old Zackary Ross, holding a plastic bag containing a white powdered. According to Elmira Police, Ross tried to put the bag down the back of his pants. Elmira Police say the officer believed the white powder to be cocaine.
Ross refused to exit the car when directed to by officers. Police say he became uncooperative. He was arrested for Obstructing Governmental Administration and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. After further investigation, Ross was also charged with 4th degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance after police found he had cocaine.
