UPDATE: Police say the investigation is now a death investigation. A body was found in the dumpster taken away from the scene Tuesday morning.

Elmira, N.Y. (WENY)-- An overnight fight on Elmira's southside has left one person in the hospital and police searching for answers.
Around 1:30 Tuesday morning, police were called to the intersection of Mt. Zoar Street and S. Main Street for reports of a fight. A witness called policed and told them he saw a fight break out, and a person get knocked unconscious. The witness told police he saw the person who was knocked out get carried across the street. When police responded to the scene, they found the unconscious individual. That person was transported to the hospital, where the condition is unknown at this time.
Throughout Tuesday morning, several evidence tags were laid out in the street, marking potential pieces of evidence involved in the case. A dumpster with a blue tarp draped over the top was also hauled away from the scene. Police believe the dumpster was somehow involved in the incident and was taken away for evidence measures.
Police have identified and are interviewing several people believed to be involved in the incident. Police believe this was an isolated incident, and the parties were known to each other.
