EPD Responds to Call, Finds Body In A Dumpster

UPDATE 2/27/2018 9:00PM: Three Elmira residents arrested in connection to body found in dumpster?

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) - Elmira Police are conducting a death investigation after an overnight fight on the city's southside.

Police were called to the intersection of Mt. Zoar Street and S. Main Street around 1:30am Tuesday. According to Elmira Police, they were told a person had been found in a dumpster behind the Samaritan Center. Police say the person was already dead when emergency medical personnel arrived on scene.

The caller told police he had seen a fight in the area where a person was knocked down. According to the witness, the person was carried away from the scene towards the area of Mt. Zoar Street.

Elmira Police say they identified and interviewed several persons of interest in the case. They say this is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public.

Police are not identifying the victim, pending notification of his family.

No arrests have been made at this time. Police say they're working with the Chemung County District Attorney's Office are in the process of determining appropriate charges.
