Families experience the joy of reading through 2018 Book Fest

Posted: Updated:

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Kids in the area could blast off with a good book at the annual book fest in Elmira. Book Fest was held at Diven School and featured different ways kids could experience reading. Families could participate in a number of activities, like reading with story book characters, reading with therapy dogs and lots of arts and crafts. New this year was the Star Lab which gave children a chance to explore the universe.

"The goal of Book Fest is just to remind families that reading together is fun," said Family Reading Partnership of Chemung Valley Book Fest, Michelle Halperin. "That reading together should be something that you do all the time. Getting together, whether your child is an infant, all the way up through elementary school, reading together is a great way to help your children."

The event is put on every year by the Family Reading Partnership of Chemung Valley.
