ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Community members are getting ready to Paint the Night Pink at the 3rd Annual Charity Gala happening this Saturday.
It's sure to be a night filled with fun, supporting a good cause and giving hope to those in need.
"My mom is an amazing woman. If you met her you would fall in love with her. She's got the biggest heart... she's so sweet." Courage hope and faith carry many of us through the toughest times in life. That moment came for Alisa Parmenter and her family found out her mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
"Fortunately we have a great care facility right here in our backyard. And the care was second to none. As her primary caregiver, Alisa says going out of town was not an option. "We, of course, had a couple of different opinions after she was diagnosed. Once we met with the Falck Cancer Center and the doctors there, we really felt like this is where she needed to be."
And Alisa was by her mother's side the whole time. "She had 52 weeks of chemotherapy and 9 weeks of radiation. You have all the appointments and scans... she just had this light about her and this positivity which also helped her get through it."
It was her mother's battle that inspired her to Paint the Night Pink. "I wanted to bring something to this area that was kind of unique."
The charity gala raises money for Falck's Patient Services Fund. Offering financial help to families spending their days undergoing treatment, therapy and fighting for their lives. Last year more than 300 people turned out for the fundraiser. This year, a new venue is allowing the event to grow even more.
