BIG FLATS, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Arnot Mall redevelopment project is one step closer to becoming a reality.
The Big Flats Town Planning Board approved the application for the mall redevelopment and the Holiday Inn Express project.
There was a public hearing as well, the board says there were no objections to the mall's application. As we previously reported, Big Flats Town Officials say the mall wants to demolish the old Bon-Ton space, to make room for a new 4-story Holiday Inn Express. There's also talk of a farmer's market at the retail destination as well.
According to minutes from a previous Big Flats planning board meeting, the goal is for the hotel to attract upwards of 40-thousand people annually.
Scott Esty, the Chair of the Town Planning Board, said, "I think the mall is being very proactive in looking at the future of community, we are glad to have them a part of the big flats community, and we look forward to this great addition."
Moving forward, it's expected that ground will be broken for the new hotel in the coming weeks.
