Local organization raises money to send kids to diabetes camp

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- One local organization is giving kids the chance to go to camp this summer. Antique Tractors and Engines has been working over the past year to raise money for the American Diabetes Association's "Camp Aspire". Camp Aspire is a camp for kids to make them feel accepted and at ease with having diabetes. Last year, local high school student, Gavin Rucker, was awarded the money from the group to go to camp. This year, Antique Tractors and Engines presented over eight thousand, five hundred dollars to the association to help send more kids to camp this year.

"It's actually really fun because when you go there, everybody there has diabetes, so you feel like you're not alone anymore," said 2017 camp recipient, Gavin Rucker. "I know I did because all the kids in my school didn't have diabetes and I was the only one there. There's lot of fun activities you can do, like there's a zip line,  a tree house and just a lot of fun activities you can do."
