Ithaca, N.Y. (WENY) - Ithaca Beer Company plans to launch a statewide beer product starting on May 15th.
The product, "Brew York" is the first beer that will be made mostly with New York ingredients. The beer will contain 3 different kinds of hops that are 100 percent state ingredients, along with nearly 70% of New York grown malt that will be increasing to nearly 80% within the year. Governor Cuomo says the new product helps support "Southern Tier Soaring", the region's plan to help revitalize and grow local communities.
"We've been working with local ingredients since 2004. We started with a double IPA that featured New York State Hops, we are big supporters of New York State Agriculture," said Ithaca Beer Company's Head of Brewing, Andrew Hausman.
Hausman added, "It's got a nice soft profile to it, a delicate hoppiness, some fruit characters in the aroma and flavor of the beer. But, it's really a beer that should be easily enjoyed by just about anyone who does like beer."
Ithaca Beer Company says the project so far has been a great experience. They have seen a rapid growth and increase when it comes to the quality and supply of the state's ingredients.
"The product is going to be the size of fifteen-hundred barrels between now and fall, which is a pretty substantial amount of liquid. We're really excited about it, and it's going to be seen all across the state. We're also very grateful for our legislators as well," said Hausman.
The beer will be available year-round as well as statewide.
