Ithaca, N.Y. (WENY)-- The Ithaca Beer Co. is releasing it's newest beer Wednesday, and is making history by doing so.
Through "Brew York" Pale Ale, Ithaca Beer Co. is the first New York State brewery to commit to high volume, long-term use of New York-grown ingredients. The beer was brewed using 100% New York hops, and nearly 70% New York-grown barley.
The brewery is forecasting 1,500 barrels of Brew York Pale Ale to be made this year alone. It is available to retailers in every market within the state in both kegs and 12-ounce bottled six-packs beginning today, May 16th.
"The release of Brew York has been in the making for more than a decade. In 2004, we introduced an all New York State hopped Double IPA while working on getting the Northeast Hop Alliance off the ground. We spent significant time in front of state legislators requesting support to bring back the once thriving NYS hop industry,” said Ithaca Beer Co. Founder and President Dan Mitchell in a release.
After tasting the beer earlier this week, Governor Cuomo said "Now that's New York!"
Brew York will be available year round.
