ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – Today artists took to the streets of downtown Elmira for the 11th annual Elmira Street Painting Festival. With there estimated to be over 150 different works of art being created, there was plenty to see down Water Street and Main Street on this beautiful day.
The streets literally become a canvas for each individual masterpiece, and most of the creations even come along with their own corporate sponsor. The festival allows for a fun and free way for people to showcase their drawing talents all while bringing the community together for a great summer time event.
One of the artists and Elmira resident Daniel Kniffen told WENY, “My background, I went to college for art education at VCU. I don't work in the field, but it is my passion. The art festival is a great way for local artists to show off their talent.”
“It is a great venue for that and for people to come by and see the wonderful artwork after we get finished. It usually only lasts for about five minutes when it rains. It brings a lot of people downtown, so it's really nice.”
The festival goes on until closing ceremonies tomorrow at 3:45pm.
