Tompkins Co. Sheriff's Office Looking for Boat Involved in Cayuga Lake Hit and Run

LANSING, N.Y. (WENY) – The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office is asking for help in identifying a boat involved in a hit and run over the weekend.

According to police, on Saturday July 7 at about 10:48 p.m., a boating accident happened east of Taughannock Falls State Park after the fireworks event.

After striking one boat, which sustained significant damage, the suspect boat fled the scene in a southerly direction on Cayuga Lake.

Witnesses said the suspect boat appeared to have a white bottom, red or maroon top side and was about 21 feet in length with a canvas folding top.

Police assume the suspect boat took damage to the bow and port side areas.
