Southern Tier, N.Y. (WENY)-- The Southern Tier Bicycle League is promoting bike safety Wednesday with demonstrations and free bike helmet giveaways.
The demonstration and giveaways will happen during the Summer Lunch Program for Kids, put on by the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. The first one is happening today, Wednesday July 11th at noon at Grove Park in Elmira. Children are encouraged to ride their bike to the event if they have one. Children who don't have a bike can enter a raffle to win one.
If your child can't attend Wednesday's bike safety event, there are two more coming up. The next one will be at Katy Leary Park in Elmira on Friday, July 13th at noon. There will also be one next Thursday, July 19th at Sullivan Park in Horseheads, also at noon.
Free lunch for children 18 and younger is available from 12:00pm-1:00pm at Grove Park and from 11:45am-12:45pm at Katy Leary Park and 12:00pm-1:00pm at Sullivan Park. The Summer Lunch Program at these sites is a partnership between the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, Arc of Chemung, Southside Alliance Church, Catholic Charities, the Elmira City School District, Economic Opportunity Program, Inc and the Chemung County Child Hunger Task Force. There are 14 sites throughout Chemung County where children can receive free meals during the summer.
