IDA, Robbie Nichols Agree in Principle to Finalize First Arena Hockey Team Deal

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – According to the Executive Director of the Chemung County Industrial Development Agency Mike Krusen and Elmira Pioneers owner Robbie Nichols, Nichols and the IDA have agreed in principle to finalize a deal to bring the Federal Hockey League to Elmira.

According to Krusen, the agreement is not yet set in stone, but they have settled various business terms and he is “very confident” moving forward.

He added there is still “lots of paperwork” to be signed, but lawyers from both sides are expected to have a final meeting as soon as early next week.

There have been multiple efforts to bring hockey back to Elmira after the Elmira Jackals were voluntarily suspended at the end of their 2016-17 season.

Ideally, hockey could return to the First Arena within the next year.
