The Grand Prix Festival kicks off tonight in Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) - Since 1993, the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival has been celebrated by fans from all across the country and this weekend the festival will be making another return. 

Starting today there will be various events happening in the downtown Watkins Glen area, leading up to the race and festival. Tonight at 5:35, there will be "pre-race" ceremonies, there will also be tour parade laps at 6:10 and then at 6:30 the Grand Prix Race tribute begins! There will also be qualifying races happening today starting at 8 am and ending at 5:30 pm. The "Feature Race 1" will kick off at 3:30 at the WGI track. 

Starting at 7 am tomorrow, there will be free coffee and donuts with Watkins Glen President, Michael Printup. There will also be a "Hawk Performance" at 8 am. The first Feature Race will begin at 9:05 am, races are expected to end around 5:05 pm. 

On Sunday, various races will be held all day, including the Marque Race and Joel Finn Cup Race. 

The original circuit will be closed to public traffic tonight from 6 to 7:30 for race re-enactments. Franklin Street from 1st to 11th Street will be also be closed tonight from 12:30 to 9:00 pm for a variety of activities. Also please note that various tours of the original race circuit will occur between 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm.
