Road closures in Pine City to repair flooding damage

Posted: Updated:

PINE CITY, N.Y. (WENY) – As a result of recent storms, the Chemung County Department of Public Works is replacing two large culverts on County Route 29 – Dry Run Road – in Pine City.

Replacement of both culverts require the road to be closed to traffic for the duration of construction.

The first closure, about half a mile north of County Route 69 – Pennsylvania Avenue – will begin on Monday, September 10 and last approximately three weeks.

The second closure, County Route 29 at Left Branch Dry Run Road, will begin immediately upon the completion of the first project and will last approximately five weeks.

There will be no posted detour. Drivers are advised to travel south to County Route 69 or north to County Route 36 (Dutch Hill Road) to reach their destinations.

Drivers are asked to drive carefully and give themselves extra time to reach their destinations during closure periods.

The Town of Southport, Elmira City School District Transportation and Pine City School have each been advised of the closures so they can make alternate arrangements for service and provide notice to families and residents along Dry Run Road.

Please contact the Department of Public Works at 607-739-3896 with any questions.
