ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Today Eldridge Park was the host for the 9th Annual CASA-Trinity Walk for Recovery. The walk was held earlier in the day and just so happens to be a small part in the main scheme of the event. The true goal is the gathering of families and friends who come to show their support to those recovering from substance abuse and addictions.
The opioid epidemic is still present in our area, but the fight against and awareness of it is very evident as well. Along with guest speakers talking about their recovery process, there was also music, raffles, rock painting, and a free lunch.
Joel Yager, the Chief Programs Officer for CASA-Trinity, told WENY, "This is a chance to get people together to share stories about their loved and other struggling with addiction. It's also people being able to see that those with addiction can get well. I think that's what is most important in having an event of this size. This is why it has been so important in doing this so many years in a row."
The weather was a bit on the cool and gloomy side, but that did not stop the dozens of people who came out to celebrate their loved ones and friends overcoming their struggle.
