Elmira, N.Y. (WENY)-- The City of Elmira is getting help from the Federal Government to develop affordable housing.
Congressman Tom Reed announced Wednesday the Department of Housing and Urban Development is providing Elmira with two grants, totaling $1,580,691. These grants come from the The Community Development Block Grants Program, and the HOME Program. Both programs essentially allow communities to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing for low-income families.
“CDBG and HOME grants are a vital part in improving neighborhoods and homes throughout our city,” says Dan Mandell, Mayor of the City of Elmira, Dan Mandell.
The City of Ithaca also received two grants from HUD for affordable housing. Congressman Reed says the grants from the CDBG and HOME Programs total $1,054,874. The funding will also help Ithaca develop more affordable housing for low-income families.
"We care about ensuring our friends and neighbors have fair access to quality housing,” Congressman Reed says. “This grant enables our communities to develop affordable housing and boosts jobs.”
Congressman Reed recently finished touring CDBG projects with the HUD Region Two Administrator Lynn Patton.
