Elmira, N.Y. (WENY)-- Community members are invited to bring any important documents and papers they don't need anymore to the Chemung Canal Trust Company for safe disposal.
At any of several upcoming events, anyone can pull their car up to the site, and volunteers will unload any papers from your car, and they will be shredded. The first shredding event is happening at the Corning Chemung Canal location on Saturday, September 15th from 1pm-3pm.
If you can't make the first one, there are two more opportunities. Saturday, September 22nd from 1pm-3pm at the Main Chemung Canal Office in downtown Elmira, or Saturday October 20th from 1pm-3pm at the Arnot Road Office.
“Properly disposing of important papers, statements and documents is one of the easiest ways to help prevent both fraud and identity theft,” says CCTC Senior Vice President & Director of Marketing Mike Wayne. “This is our twelfth year offering this free service; it has always been well received by our customers and the general public, and we expect that to be the case again this year,” he added.
Rogers Service Group will be providing mobile shredding trucks, stationed in the bank's parking lots.
Scott Heffner from Chemung Canal tells us more about the event in the above interview.
