HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- A local fire department opened their doors to the public to raise awareness about fire safety on Thursday night. Town and Country Fire Department hosted their annual fire prevention open house. There, people could visit with a variety of vendors and watch displays, like live fires and even a K-9 demo. Organizers say the event is all about raising awareness about fire safety.
"The goal of this open house every year is to do the education to the community," said Town and Country Fire Department open house committee chairman, Aaron Golden. "Not just to the kids, not just to the teenagers, to the adults as well. There's a lot of things that we can teach everybody in the community, and that's the overall goal is to know when to utilize 911, to know when to utilize the call for help, and that's the biggest asset."
The event started at 5:30 PM and ran until 8 PM and was free and open to the public.
