Local fire union raising money for injured Corning Firefighter

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – A local firefighters' union is raising money for a Corning firefighter and his family who were seriously injured in a crash in Newfield Sunday night.

Chris Willis, his mother and his girlfriend were driving on Shaffer Road when a Dodge Ram pickup truck crossed the double yellow line, hitting their Ford Fusion head on.

The driver of the truck was identified as Andrew Sampson of Horseheads. He has been charged with vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Willis, his 24-year-old girlfriend and his 62-year-old mother were flown to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse where they remain in serious condition.

The Elmira Fire Fighters IAFF Local 709 union is accepting donations to help the victims and their families.
