ITHACA N.Y.(WENY)-- Men across the country are dusting off their razors as "No Shave November" comes to a close. But, one Sheriffs Department has decided to extend into the season of giving and start a new non-shaving initiative.
"This year there was a request that came in, we decided to extend a don't shave December so that the funds that were brought in were put in place and donated for one of our Sargent who is out sick right now," says Ray Bunce, Captain of Corrections Division
25 year Tompkins County Sheriff's Deputy Tom Walpole was diagnosed with A-L-S in September. A-L-S is a neurodegenerative disease which affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Now, the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office is teaming up with "Tackle A-L-S" to create an online fundraiser for their beloved Sergeant.
"Team Walpole refers to one of our Sargent that works here, he was diagnosed recently with ALS and we wanted to take the opportunity as a sheriff's office all together to do what we could to donate towards his benefit," says Bunce
