ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The oldest charity in Chemung County is celebrating the completion of their annual Christmas campaign broadcast. The Arctic League's campaign, aiming to put gifts in the hands of every kid in need across Chemung County, has been going strong now for over 105 years.
People have tuned in for many years to see all of the showcased local talent, all while having the opportunity to donate to the holiday initiative. This year's goal is set at 120 thousand dollars, with a big portion of that being raised by this years broadcast.
At the Clemens Center Arctic League President Maria Vonneida told me, "Personally I am involved in the Arctic League because I just love the feeling on Christmas morning to see the gifts going out of the building, going to the homes of the children in need. All to make them know that Santa Claus hasn't forgotten them."
The final total from the day ended up being a whopping $53,000 and change! That of course being a figure that organization officials are more than pleased to be able to add to the Arctic League's pending final total.
