Cottage Gift Shop Closing After 31 Years of Business

Posted: Updated:

Elmira, NY (WENY) – After 31 years of doing business in the southern tier, the Cottage Gift shop will be closing their doors to the public, allowing the owners to enjoy retirement.

The small family owned business opened in 1988 selling folk art, stuffed dolls, candles, paint, etc. In 2004 the store had planned to covert into a toy store but never did leaving them to have a massive supply of hot wheel toy cars.

Everything in the gift shop is 50% off and store owners say everything must go. The closing comes as the owners are getting ready to retire and although the store is closing they have big plans to convert their property into something much more enjoyable.

They say the best part of the journey has been the various interactions with their customers.

“Probably the people, you meet so many wonderful people...they really touch you soul,” said Tom Gorman, Owner of the Cottage Gift Shop.

The Cottage Gift Shop will stay open as late as December 31 if they still have items in its shop but the owner expects to sell all inventory in the coming months.
