HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- WENY news is digging deeper into the recent changes into local leadership in the Village of Horseheads. As we reported, Louis McIntosh suddenly resigned from her position as Mayor in December. Tuesday, we've learned, a new mayor has been officially selected.
The Village Clerk confirms to WENY News that Robert Maloney is now the Mayor of the Village. He had been serving as a trustee since 2016.
According to New York State law, in the event of a resignation, the remaining board members are able to vote in on of their own to take over the position. This then leaves a trustee position vacant. The current mayor has the authority to appoint anyone he/she sees fit to that position. Mayor Maloney has not yet named a replacement trustee at this time.
Additionally, the Village Clerk also confirms to WENY News that the current Director of Parks and Recreation, Nate Nagle, is taking on the role of Acting Village Manager. Nagle will serve in both positions while officials review applicants for the job. We're told there were about 20 applications submitted for the Village Manager position. That role must be decided by the entire board.
Leadership is made up of five people - four board trustees and the mayor.
The regularly scheduled meeting for this Thursday, January 10th, has been canceled due to scheduling conflicts with "several board members," according to officials.
The next Village Board meeting is set for Thursday, January 24th, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at Village Hall.
