Two arrested in Horseheads after allegedly running from police following theft

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) – Two people were arrested in the Village of Horseheads after police say they stole private property and then ran from officers.

On Tuesday, February 5 around 11:00 in the morning, Horseheads Police responded to Pleasant Street for the report of a larceny in progress.

Officers say they saw a man and woman hiding behind a home. The two suspects reportedly ran from police, but were arrested shortly after.

They have been identified as 27-year-old Ciera Bennett and 31-year-old Joseph Waters. Both were charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree. Police say additional charges are pending.

They were both sent to the Chemung County Jail on $5,000 bail.

The Horseheads Police Department was assisted by the Chemung County Sheriff's Office, Elmira Heights Police Department, the New York State Police and the Elmira Police Department.
