Southern Tier, N.Y. (WENY)-- There are several grant programs and opportunities available to girls and women in Steuben, Chemung, Schuyler, and Yates counties through the Fund For Women of the Southern Tier Inc. organization.
Individuals can apply for two levels of educational grants. The first is a $500 grant to help females achieve their educational goals. The money can be used for transportation, books, tuition, supplies, child care, etc. New this year is a $2,500 grant, which would go directly to the educational institution. Preference for this grant will be given to first in family to go to college, adult learners retooling, or females who have overcome significant challenges in their lives. This grant can also be used to pay outstanding debt at educational institutions. This is debt that hinders women from being granted their diploma or continuing their education. Non-profits that help girls and women can also apply for programs.
Applications for the grant programs are due March 1st. To apply, or for more information, click here: http://www.communityfund.org/fund-for-women-grants.
There are also two other programs that help women that are immediately available. Barriers to Care provides grants up to $500 for women being treated for breast cancer. The money can be used for medical expenses, transportation to and from treatment, child care, etc. Fund for Women also has a new Wig Fund that provides financial help to purchase wigs for women being treated for any kind of cancer.
