New York Department of Health releases county breakdown of 165 lung injuries linked to vaping
ALBANY, N.Y. (WENY) -- Vaping-related illness has now been reported in 165 patients in New York State alone, as authorities race to determine what is causing the rapidly-growing outbreak.
The new tally of serious lung injuries connected to vaping included the first breakdown by county from the state Department of Health (DOH), as the Star Gazette reports.
The outbreak started this past summer with just 11 cases, before rapidly spreading and igniting a statewide probe.
There has been one suspected vaping death in the Empire State involving a Bronx teen.
Officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that vitamin E acetate, in combination with THC, may be to blame.
According to the map released by the DOH, there are cases under investigation in Chemung County, but none have been officially confirmed yet. Broome County is also investigating cases of vaping-related illnesses.
