2020 New York State Fair canceled
NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. (WENY) – During a Monday press briefing in New York City, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the annual New York State Fair has been canceled.
The fair, which happens every year in Syracuse, was slated to happen from August 21 to September 7. The Governor said the decision to cancel was made “out of an abundance of caution”. He called the decision a “really tough one”.
Last year, the fair broke the attendance record. The new 136,000 square foot Exposition Center – the larges expo facility north of New York City between Boston and Cleveland – was also unveiled.
During the briefing, Cuomo also said the state was examining data regarding movie theaters and casinos, but added at this time, both industries will remain closed.
He also said no decision regarding reopening schools in the fall has been made yet; the more than 700 school districts across the state are required to submit plans to New York for what precautions they will take if they are permitted to open.
