EPD Investigating shootout in Elmira, one person sent to hospital
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY)-- A 15-year-old was shot during a shootout in Elmira this afternoon on the city's southside.
According to police, they responded to the area of the 200 block of Franklin Street. They received reports of several people shooting in the street.
The 15-year-old who was shot was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The two cars that were involved were located several blocks away on West Ave and West Hudson. People in both of the cars took off running.
Numerous residents were interviewed and a search warrant was executed on a residence on Franklin Street.
Authorities say they found more than a dozen spent shell casings fired from multiple weapons.
A semi-automatic handgun was also recovered. It is believed the people involved were known to each other and this is not a random act of violence.
Officers are now looking for the suspected shooters. This incident is still under investigation by the Elmira Police Department and they ask any with information can call 607-737-5626
